The Emberá (also known as the Épera) are Indigenous peoples living in eastern Panama, western Colombia—particularly in the departments of Chocó, Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío—as well as in Ecuador. They are one of Colombia's 80 recognized ethnic groups, in a country where 64 Indigenous languages and more than 300 dialectal varieties continue to be spoken.
