Ernesto Yerena Montejano was born in El Centro, California, an agricultural town on the border with Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Shaped by his transnational upbringing, his artistic practice explores the perspectives and experiences of Mexican communities living on both sides of the U.S.–Mexico border. Through his bold and provocative imagery, Yerena addresses political and social issues by portraying cultural icons, rebels, and everyday people who stand against oppression.
